LIBRARY workers in Lansdown, Stroud are taking a stand against low pay.

Five women including Stroud libraries manager, three library team leaders and a library assistant have joined the strike in a series of disputes with the government over pay, pensions and cuts.

Teachers, council staff, firefighters and civil servants are among those taking part.

Anne Riley, locality manager at Stroud Library said: “Over the last few years since 2010 the government have made 20 per cent cuts to our pay and we are behind in keeping up with the cost of living.

“One pound an hour increase is all we are asking for, we are not asking for the 14 per cent increases that heads of banks are getting.

“Our request hardly seems a huge amount to us but it would make such a big difference.”

Unison general secretary Dave Prentis said workers were now £4,000 a year worse off than they were in 2010.

Other workers to take industrial action include refuse collectors and dinner ladies, while unions rallies will also take place in towns and cities across the UK.
