AS part of 16 days of action What is a healthy relationship? campaign, Safer Gloucester will be hosting a Domestic Abuse – Everyone’s Business event on Wednesday, December 3.

The event will take place in the Civic Suite, Gloucester City Council’s North Warehouse, The Docks from 5pm until 7pm.

We are delighted to welcome our guest speakers, Dr Jane Monckton- Smith, a senior lecturer in criminology at the University of Gloucestershire, Frank Mullane, director of the charity AAFDA (Advocacy After Fatal Domestic Abuse) and Nick Gazzard, chairman of the Hollie Gazzard Trust.

The event is open to anyone but places must be booked in advance via CDPartnership@gloucester.gov.uk – there are only a few spaces left available so please book quickly.

Bristol, Gloucestershire, Somerset and Wiltshire’s Community Rehabilitation Company Gloucestershire Representative Kevin Dower, chairman of Safer Gloucester, said: “It is vital to recognise and report incidents of domestic abuse, in order to prevent further tragedies in this county.

"Safer Gloucester wants to promote healthy relationships and has produced a booklet promoting the agencies who support those who unfortunately find themselves in a relationship that has become abusive.”

“This ensures we are making reference to the change to a Community Rehabilitation Company as technically Gloucester Probation no longer exists.

Jennie Dallimore, Deputy Leader of Gloucester City Council, said “It is important to raise awareness of the issues of domestic abuse and assure victims that there is help available. Domestic abuse is everyone’s problem. This event promises to be an informative and moving evening.”

Gloucester Police Chief Inspector, Neil Smith said: “Gloucestershire Constabulary takes a zero tolerance approach to domestic violence and I would urge anyone who is a victim to report the abuse, seek help and ultimately keep safe.”

About the campaign

Gloucestershire is taking a stand to promote healthy relationships and raise awareness of domestic abuse, sexual violence and other related issues across 16 days of action.

Between Tuesday, November 25 ‘Elimination of Violence against Women and Girls International day’ and Wednesday 10th December ‘Human Rights’ day organisations, groups and communities right across the county are joining forces and taking action.

A number of events for public and professionals will be held throughout the county, backed up by a marketing campaign encouraging people to seek help if they have any doubts that they are in a healthy relationship.

Those supporting the campaign will be asked to display a poster or wear a purple ribbon.
