A STRATEGY for transport improvements in Stroud is being put out for consultation for the final time.

Gloucestershire County Council’s long-term countywide strategy for transport outlines transport priorities across Gloucestershire for the next 15 years.

Priorities outlined in the draft plan include progression with the successful campaign launched by the council to solve the A417 Missing Link as well as working with Highways England for improvements to junctions on the M5 and Network Rail for enhancements to Gloucestershire rail services and stations.

Stroud, Nailsworth, Stonehouse and the surrounding areas are all included in the suggested areas for transport improvements.

These are:

• Junction improvements on the A419 corridor

• Improvements to A38 and the B4066 corridor to Berkeley

• Cycle access improvements

• Rail service and station improvements

• Highway junction improvements

Cabinet member for planning and infrastructure at the council, Will Windsor-Clive, said: “We know from the consultation last year that people want to see ideas that will lessen the impact of traffic on our communities and improve travel choice.

“The draft local transport plan sets out the priorities for transport to enable sustainable economic growth and I’m looking forward to understanding people’s views on our draft priorities.”

The objectives of the draft plan are to support sustainable economic growth, enable community connectivity, conserve the environment and improve community health and wellbeing.

Scheme priorities are broken down into short, medium and long term phases.
