A CHARITY jumble sale in Nailsworth raised an incredible £2,244 to support a life-saving orphanage in North West Thailand.

UK-based charity Acorn Overseas held the sale at the Acorn School on Church Street on May 14.

Around 300 people attended the special annual fundraiser, which saw the school hall lined with stalls run by local craft makers.

The money will be used to support the shelter, which cares for around 45 orphaned or abandoned children who have managed to escape the regime in neighbouring Burma.

Natasha Whiting, who founded the charity in 2010 and regularly travels out to the orphanage, said the £2,244 could be used to feed all the children for two months and help cover their school fees.

In Thailand it costs £11.77 to send one of the children to school for a year.
