A LONG-SERVING nurse has received her MBE at Buckingham Palace at a special ceremony.

Carol Stonham, who has been a nurse since the age of 16, was made an MBE for services to her profession in the Queen's New Year's Honours list.

She was presented with the honour by HRH Princess Anne at an investiture at Buckingham Palace on Wednesday, June 22.

Carol, who has two children, has worked at Minchinhampton Surgery as a practice nurse specialising in respiratory care for 25 years after training in Frenchay Hospital in Bristol in 1983.

She is also the lead nurse for Primary Care Respiratory Society UK which delivers patient-centred respiratory care across the country.

She is also the expert blogger for the Nursing in Practice respiratory resource centre.

She holds an MSc in respiratory care from Education for Health and the Open University and is also a Queen’s Nurse in recognition of her long service.

Carol has had a number of articles about aspects of respiratory care published in nursing and primary care journals.

She qualified in 1983 at Frenchay Hospital in Bristol and has been involved with respiratory care since 1990 when she first began working in general practice.
