THE authors of a sell-out local history book have donated £1000 of their profits to Help for Heroes.

The six writers of A Parish at War: Brownshill, Bussage, Chalford & France Lynch 1914-1919 gathered at Chalford Parish Centre on Saturday to hand over a cheque to the veterans charity.

The history book was researched, written and produced by the group of enthusiasts who came together gradually after the project was launched in 2013.

The 328 page book profiles men who lost their lives serving in the Great War and paints a vivid picture of how everyday life in the village was affected by the war.

It also provides detailed biographies and wartime experiences of 108 servicemen and their families back home and is illustrated with old photographs.

The six contributors are Camilla Boon, Heather Collins, Hilary Burgess, Roger Carnt, Peter Drover, and Juliet Stewart.

The book, which is priced at £10, has been sold at a number of local outlets including The Chalford Parish Centre, Eastcombe Stores and Chalford Village Shop. A reprint is currently under way.

Help for Heroes supports thousands of men and women and their families from the Armed Forces.
