A VIGIL for Brianna Ghey is to take place in Stroud this weekend.
Brianna, who was a transgender girl from Birchwood in Warrington, was found with fatal wounds on a path in nearby Culcheth Linear Park at around 3.13pm on Saturday February 11.
Hundreds of mourners gathered in the town where she was killed as well as central London’s Soho Square on Saturday afternoon to pay their respects to the 16-year-old.
Stroud will remember her on Sunday evening at a candlelit vigil organised by Stroud Pride.
It will take place in the town centre at 5.30pm.
"The death of 16 year-old Brianna Ghey has been keenly felt by the LGBTQ+ community around the UK," said a spokesperson for Stroud Pride.
"The fact that she was a young transgender woman, who after years of bullying was killed has horribly illustrated the fear that transgender people are currently living under in the UK.
"Seeing a person so young lose her life because of prejudice... has been heartbreaking.
"Therefore vigils have been organised across the country, in cities and towns, to allow LGBTQ+ people and their allies to come together, grieve and reflect.
"We want something like this to never happen again, so as a country this moment of reflection is important.
"As the committee for the yearly Pride picnic in Stroud, we felt it was valuable to create a space for people throughout Stroud and the surrounding areas to be able to come together over this tragedy."
Those who attend will meet at the top of Stroud High Street before walking down to St Laurence's Church.
