WHILST there are concerns regarding the safety of road users near the entrance to Waitrose, I have always felt vulnerable walking along that stretch of London Road between the Waitrose roundabout and the Cornhill roundabout.

The pavements are narrow (very narrow in some places) and traffic was subject last year on this stretch to speed checks as the limits are not always observed.

Some pedestrians walk along here by choice, like I did until recently when I realised that by walking through the car park, which is parallel to London Road and up to Brunel Mall, virtually removes all chance of negative involvement with vehicular traffic.

I can recommend this route to all pavement users, particularly those of advancing years (like me) and in wet weather it also avoids the inevitable spray thrown up by London Road traffic which on occasions consists of buses and articulated vehicles.

Apologies if I’ve been slow on the uptake but I now feel 100 per cent safer using this route.
