SO THE crisis in the NHS is caused by fat people ‘stuffing themselves’ (robertpaterson3 SNJ Sept 7).

Leaving aside the research that shows that the poor, and people in work that has unpredictable hours, and often poorly paid, need to rely on cheap ‘fillers’ often low in high quality protein but high in calories, the concept of ‘undeserving recipients of NHS care’ is contentious.

It doesn’t take an Einstein to expand the list: all those sports injuries, irresponsible drivers, jaywalkers, STDs, elderly, expectant mothers, etc.

It would not be too difficult to exclude most of the adult population. The truth is that we all make some contribution to our injuries and illnesses.

Let’s leave this nasty concept where it belongs - in the Victorian age.
