BIRDLIP jockey Jason Maguire will launch straight into his new role as an ambassador for Great British Racing at Cheltenham’s Open meeting next month.

The jockey, who won the Grand National on Ballabriggs in 2011, will be giving his views online and interacting with racing fans via Twitter question and answer sessions.

Maguire’s first blog will be published on the GBI website lovetheraces.com on Friday, November 14 – the first day of Paddy Power Gold Cup meeting.

Maguire had a life-threatening race-fall at Stratford in March when he was lying in second place to champion Tony McCoy in the jump jockeys’ title race.

Maguire, who suffered a fractured sternum and had part of his liver removed, has only recently returned to race riding after more than six months on the sidelines.

“I've had a rocky few months, missing the summer after a bad injury, but I am raring to go now and to recount my experiences through the winter,” said Maguire.

“Hopefully, readers of my blog will enjoy getting a behind-the-scenes view of what it is like being a jump jockey as we build up to the big festivals in the spring.”

Maguire is stable jockey to Ballabriggs’ trainer Donald McCain in Cheshire and also rides regularly for Kim Bailey at Andoversford.

Chief executive of GBI, Rod Street, said: “Few athletes endure the highs and lows that jump jockeys experience and Jason knows this more than most.

“It is brilliant to have someone of his experience and talent on board.”
