South & West Counties Championship

Gloucestershire FA U18s 1

Somerset FA 6

Kailan Gould (Yate Town) completed a hat-trick as Somerset hit five second half goals to clinch their first win of the season.

It was a game of two halves played in terrible weather at Oaklands Park.

Gloucestershire had the conditions in their favour in the first half and Fergus McDerinad (Street) had great difficulty clearing the ball more than 25 yards with the wind blowing the ball back.

It was against the run of play when Liam Villis (Ashton and Backwell) was  brought down by goalkeeper Sam Clay, Gould stepped forward to convert the penalty on nine minutes.

Somerset nearly increased their lead on 19 minutes, but Villis shot wide when clean through.

Gloucestershire hit back and grabbed the equalised a corner by Jack Freeman (Forest Green Rovers) was converted at the far post by Kingsley Miller (Bristol Manor Farm).

A good free-kick by Ollie Yates (Forest Green) nearly gave Gloucestershire the lead and Ashley Bird (Gloucester City) just missed with a good shot on 44 minutes.

Somerset were pleased to reach half-time all-square.

Gloucestershire held their own for ten minutes in the second half before they lost the ball in midfield and a slick passing move left Gould to score his second goal after 57 minutes.

As the conditions worsened Gould compiled his hat-trick.

Ten minutes later Somerset made it four from a Villis strike.

With Gloucestershire tiring, Somerset rubbed salt in the wounds with two late goals.
