After back to back wins, the All Golds CLS side travel to London to face The Chargers.

The Chargers began their season by laying down a marker as they beat both of last year’s Grand Finalists in successive weeks before walloping Coventry Bears 80-0. However, they came down to earth a little last week losing a thrilling battle to West Wales Raiders 38-36.

“It will be a test for the boys, as every week is,” said Davidson. “The Chargers have been playing well and will want to come back from last week”.

While the Chargers suffered their first defeat of the season last weekend, the All Golds backed up their win at Nottingham with a 56-26 win over Torfaen at Gordon League and Davidson is looking for that to act as a springboard for the remaining games this season. “We showed some improvement in a few areas but there is still much to work on. There’s no time to be complacent just because we’ve won a couple of games,” he said.

Like the All Golds, the Chargers are in their first season at this level after dominating the London leagues and winning the national competition for community clubs, the Harry Jepson Trophy, for a record three years in a row.

They opened with a win over last season’s CLS runners up Valley Cougars before beating champions Nottingham Outlaws in their home debut.

After crushing Coventry it came as a slight surprise that they went down at previously winless West Wales but back on home soil this week, they will be determined to make amends.

The nucleus of the side has been together for a few seasons and coach Mark Barnes has them playing as a unit and they have already shown that they can compete at this level. The All Golds, too, have demonstrated their ability in their first season in CLS with wins at both Nottingham and Coventry before last weekend’s defeat of the Tigers.

The All Golds’ loss to the Cougars was a harsh lesson as a young team found themselves faced with a physical battle. Though the losing margin was just eight points, it highlighted the week in, week out toughness of the CLS. This weekend they will be faced with a different challenge one which Davidson believes the team are capable of rising to. “The boys have worked hard this week and are ready for the battle,” he said.
