FORMER Thornbury Broncos stars Billy and Maku Vunipola have been included in Englalnd’s 32-man squad for the three-Test tour of Australia next month.

But so has a surprise forward in the form of Bristol prop Ellis Genge, who has been on loan from the Championship side, who are looking to be promoted to the Aviva Premiership on Wednesday night, and has caught the eye of national coach Eddie Jones.

The Vunipola brothers, both of whom will be playing for Saracens in the Aviva Premiership final at Twickenham on Saturday, will end a long season that has included the Rugby World Cup and Six Nations Championships duties along with their club commitments, with the tour down under.

But for Genge, this is the chance of a lifetime. He joins Worcester centre Ben Te'o Harlequins prop Kyle Sinckler and Northampton back row Teimana Harrison as players who could make their England debuts next month.

The combative nature of Genge and Sinckler has caught Jones' attention and it was Genge, on loan at Leicester, who gave England fly-half Owen Farrell his rib injury that has kept him out of the tour when tackling the Saracens fly-half in the Premiership semi-final on Saturday.

And Genge’s style suits Jones to the ground. Jones, who lead England to the Six Nations Grand Slam this year, said: “"To beat the Wallabies in Australia you have to play a physical, aggressive brand of rugby and that's what we intend to do.

"We will need to be a fit, cohesive, tactically flexible team and play with high intensity. We have to be in their faces from the first minute of the first Test.

"But we are in no doubt of the challenge we face. England have only ever won three Tests in Australia and never won in Brisbane, so it's a great opportunity for us to create new history.

"The Grand Slam was just the start of our journey. We're ranked fourth in the world and are still developing our identity and we have a long way to go to get to where we ultimately want to be.

"This tour will provide a good chance for us to measure up to the southern hemisphere and try to close that gap.

"Australia are the second-ranked team in the world and their coach is the World Rugby coach of the year, so their supporters will expect a positive result from them. We will upset the apple cart."
