NEW Forest Green boss Mark Cooper has set to work. Needing scope to rebuild he had to release more players than anticipated.

Perhaps David Pipe and James Jennings could have stayed, but managerial change means changes throughout the club. We await the new signings to take us forward on and off the field.

Much transfer business is happening extremely early this close season. Pipe has made the move to Eastleigh, while former players Reece Styche and Jamie Turley are at Gateshead and Newport respectively. One player who would have graced the New Lawn, Steve Davis the Braintree midfield maestro has joined Boreham Wood, wishing to remain in the London area and still play part-time. He could win the ball, and use it well, just the sort of player we need.

There is much talk of formations, following our half-time switch at Wembley. The popular view is that Mark's team will play in a 3-5-2 formation. There is nothing new in that, many National league teams used it last year.

Braintree and Dover were fine exponents and I believe Cheltenham played that way.

Whatever way Mark's team play I look for more entertainment. Our celebrated new fan Jilly Cooper compared watching football to listening to Wagner "Some dreadful half hours, but some glorious moments"

More glorious moments please Mark.

We need to see some off the field magic as well. The newly formed trust and the formers supporters' club is too low profile. We get a good news letter and can buy match day raffle tickets, but what else is being done?

Good people are involved and the coach departure to Wembley was splendidly handled, but those of us who wish to be involved would like a few events to attend. Step up to the mark please gentlemen.

The advisory board must also be mentioned. Are they elected or selected? Who do they advise? From where do they gain their information? I am sure there are proper answers here, but how many people are aware of them?

The ambassadors scheme is a fine example of a successful initiative and indicates what love of the club, added to an appreciation of the wider world can achieve. It proves there are people in the club who can do things. More examples please.

This is not a moan. I am anxious to see the club move forward in every way, but any club is more than just the football and there is a perception that off the field activities need to be drawn together and certainly much more in the public domain. The player of the year voting was symptomatic of the problem, being forgotten until it was almost too late.

This is not being written by an outsider, Mrs Light and I sponsor both a match and a player and are pleased and proud to do so. Having been heavily involved at Gloucestershire, we know how difficult it is to get everyone pulling in the same direction, but it is wonderful when it works. Good luck with team building Mark. Inspire us all.
