If the ratings were done half by half, some players would receive vastly different scores for their showing in the second period.

Still, another three points is what the table shows.

Sam Russell - 9 - Unemployed in the first half, peerless in the second culminating in that penalty save. Has saved more penalties that any Rovers keeper in my memory.

Ben Jefford - 7 - Fine first half working well with Frear & Kelly. Their eclipse left him under much greater pressure in the second, occasionally caught too far forward.

Charlie Clough - 7 - Towering in the first half and his probing runs were terrific. Sloppy moments in the second which stopped when Aarran came on.

Dale Bennett - 6 - Unusually anonymous game by Dale and unaccountably vulnerable in the second period.

Liam Noble - 8 - Brilliant first period but the referee's dreadful decision about the 'Frear penalty' then being the target of several nasty assaults (insufficiently punished) brought him to boiling point. Wiseley subbed by MC.

Ethan Pinnock - 8 - Consistently good throughout the game. That he can play centre-back, left-back or in front of the back- four gives his manager a myriad of options when the going gets tough.

Darren Carter - 7 - Faded after a sound first half though not as badly as some team-mates.

Keanu Marsh-Brown - 8 - Sparkling first period, starved of possession in the second. Another cracking goal that no one else in the side could have emulated.

Elliott Frear - 6 - He, Jefford and Kelly saw a lot of the ball in the first half, but he's making the by-line less effectively than last term and remains reluctant to shoot. Maybe need to be more selfish at times?

Marcus Kelly - 6 - Delighted to see Marcus back where he should be, but he's still not quite match sharp. He and Elliott disappeared from view when Braintree revived in the second half.

Christian Doidge - 7 - Played the target man well but those around him messed his super knock downs. Sadly, when he had clear chances, the feet seemed out of sync with his brain.

Sub Kieffer Moore - 7 - Brave cameo, I thought. His bandaged head must be very sore but his presence in defence and attack helped stem Braintree's aerial assaults.

Sub Aarran Racine - 7- Did just what it says on his tin. Stemmed the rot, reassured the back-four and allowed Ethan to relieve the 'bothered' Noble.

Sub Fabien Robert - 6 - I saw what an eye he has for goal on Tuesday, but the state of the game when he came on yesterday needed graft too. A couple of nice touches but stayed out of the fight and did not hold the ball.
